NEVER MEET

YOUR HEROES

CHAPTER 1

CHILDHOOD HERO

There is this saying that you should never meet your heroes. Most important, because eventually you will be disappointed if you do. Coen drives his childhood hero daily without any regret. From a young age, he grew up with WRC, instilled by his father and uncle. As a young boy, he saw a lot of rallies, and of course, his hero was always in the lineup: The lancer EVO. Everybody with a good knowledge of cars knows the Lancer EVO; this 4-wheel-driven monster was the infamous rival of the Subaru Impreza STI WRX. Two rally legends were fighting for years over the WRC title. These kinds of battles are worthy of their own article. Maybe I will pick this up in the future. But the memories he got from the rallies are why WRC has a special place in his heart. Or, to quote Coen: Insane to see for the first time the cars and drivers you previously knew only from TV and games, such as Colin Mcrae rally.

CHAPTER 2

OBTAINING THE WHITE CHAMPION

As a kid, it is evident that an EVO 6 was eventually his dream of obtaining. Unfortunately, He is not the only one who dreams of owning one. And the fact that they are rare bumps the price a bit. As he got his driver's license, this became a bit of a problem. So logically, he turned to the more affordable fun cars. A Miata was one of these cars, the funny thing; he still drives it to this day. Then came the day a friend of his bought this particular EVO 6. He purchased it bone stock with no modifications. At this moment, when his friend obtained this EVO, he gave up looking for one because of the ridiculous prices. Well, here the story gets a little sad: his friend who bought the Lancer had mental problems. This led to him thinking about ending it all in this EVO. The car would be his last statement in this world. Luckily he got himself back on track and slowely got in a better mental shape. This left him only with the bad memories he got with the car. So he decided to sell his EVO to make a clean slate. As mentioned earlier, because of the prices, Coen wasn't looking for an EVO anymore. Until his friend approached him, it speaks for itself that he didn't hesitate for a moment to buy it from him. And so he could still drive his childhood hero.

CHAPTER 3

A VIOLENT HEART

Driving passenger with Coen makes you feel how violent the car is. This is the only way I can describe the feeling the car gives off. When he bought the EVO from his friend, it was completely stock. The stock specs are not to be messed with, but he was looking for a more on-the-edge experience with the car, just like the WRC drivers. He fitted the vehicle with the following upgrades: HKS camshafts, HKS intake, Kakimoto 3'' turbo-back, Link standalone ECU, and an HKS blowoff valve. This brings the car to a very healthy 352 horsepower with 460 nm of torque. He did an absolutely killer job of creating a rally car with such a violent attitude. Or to quote him about it. ''The car is very playful; it doesn't like to be below 3000 rpm. You feel that the car wants to go fast''.

CHAPTER 4

THE WRC EXTERIOR

The car was not only upgraded on the inside. He finally obtained his childhood hero, so every detail on his car must be perfect. First, he bought a sticker set based on the Tommi Mäkinen edition. For some background, this was a limited edition version of the EVO 6 as a tribute to Tommi Mäkinen. These versions are costly if you find them. But for Coen, with this sticker set and the small ralliart logos, it makes the car stand out a little bit more. Second, he bought Braid Fullrace-A rims, which suit the car perfectly. The combination of the stickers and the wheels gives it that WRC look that he likes so much, and I completely understand him. For the finishing touch, he placed the missing red Lancer badge on the back of the car. Believe it or not, this badge alone costs 300 euros.....yeah it sounds ridiculous. But you guessed it; they are rare and hard to come by. In my opinion, he made the car a perfect homage to the rally legend.
