RED

BOOSTED DEMON

CHAPTER 1

FUN FROM THE FACTORY

The driving experience in a stock Miata is more than enough to have a good amount of fun. The lightweight, in combination with the 50:50 weight distribution, makes it a cornering machine. Mischa bought his Miata 7 years ago for around 1500 euros as a fun little hobby project. In better times when the prices weren't inflated like today. The car remained stock for a while and was just used as a ''Sunday'' car. But, like with every hobby, it starts small. And eventually, it grows into something more prominent over time. Resulting in turning a simple stock Miata into a red-boosted demon. Due to the big turbo, this car's power is speculated to be around a healthy 250 hp. And you can imagine what kind of power that does with a curb weight of only 980 kg.

''it only went from 90 (Stock) hp to about 135 hp. In restrospect i am proud that i did this build with not to much problems. But i got used to the power output very quickly and was already looking for more''

CHAPTER 2

STEP BY STEP

The car had to undergo a few significant transformations before becoming what it is today. The first step he took was to lower the car and make the handling slightly better. But that only satisfied him for a few months, and he started looking at the 1.6 liter engine for more power. As with many modifications on cars, you are probably not the first one. So there are a lot of people with experience that can help you. He reached out to forums for help about turboing his miata. Long story short, The first turbo build was'nt really that interesing, or to quote him ''it only went from 90 (Stock) hp to about 135 hp. In restrospect i am proud that i did this build with not to much problems. But i got used to the power output very quickly and was already looking for more''.

CHAPTER 3

THE CREATION OF THE DEMON

That brings us to the car's current status; Mischa was dedicated to making something special of this build. His first idea was, as mentioned, to get more power out of the engine. He bought another 1.6-liter Miata engine and started to rebuild everything inside. For the boost part, he bought a TD05-20G hybrid. To fully use the new boost, a new intercooler with new piping was placed. Resulting in a power output of a speculated 250 hp. I've got a long history with Mischa, and there is one thing he stands behind. If you do something, you do it well, no matter the cost. You can say that upgrading the engine was the easy part of his build. Miata's have one massive flaw. They rust when you look at them. So the next step was to completely strip the car to the chassis and remove every piece of rust he could find. Being such a labor-intensive job, he was losing his motivation for the build. But he pushed through, and the car came together bit by bit. Being completely rust-free gave him enough motivation for the last phase of the build. The suspension got upgraded with BC racing coil overs for better handling. For the attentive readers, there is an integrated ducktail to the tailgate. This was done in the last phase; after that, he resprayed the car in the BMW color ''Imola red''. In my opinion, this color suits the car perfectly. Looking at the result of the vehicle: it is masterfully done with attention to detail in every corner of the car.

CHAPTER 4

COMING FULL CIRCLE

Driving this car is an experience that is hard to put into words. Because of the big turbo, the lag is quite noticeable. But when it kicks in, the sound and feel of it boosting is just magical. But Mischa is a perfectionist. Coming full circle is inevitable. Like in the first build, there's always room for improvement. He is already making plans for version 3. The main focus will be more power with a bigger turbo, and a built engine. The idea is to get around 350 whp, which actually is pretty insane, realizing that the car only has a curb weight of about 980 kg. Further, the suspension is going to be improved. And maybe even a respray. I wish him the best of luck with his improvements. There will come a part 2 of his car in the future on this site; time will eventually tell.
